FINDERS KEEPERS- summer chicness

FINDERS KEEPERS- summer chicness
Being a winter baby, I am not much of a fan of the summer season (I know, I am probably the only one). Plus, I am a HUGE winter fashion fanatic. I love layering clothing! Furs, knits, boots, leathers...winter fashion is way fun!

However, here in NY, the current humidity and rising temperatures are both indications that it's that time of year again...summer is on its way!

That being "said", what are my must have pieces of clothing for summer? In my fashionable opinion: DRESSES, SKIRTS, and MORE DRESSES! Of course you can opt to wear short shorts, and white jeans.. nothing wrong with that. But a flattering dress will always make you standout :) I find that wearing dresses in extreme heat is more comfortable than a skin tight pair of jeans. Plus, if chosen correctly, dresses can be flattering on pretty much anyone. It's all about picking the right cut, and silhouette for your body type!

Let's talk brands! I have been eyeing, and (overly?) obsessing over Finders Keepers dresses for quite some time. I think they truly capture the idea of what a cute summer dress should be. I also love the fact that they can be casual, but also be dressed up for a night out on the town. The styles, colors, and prints... I can just go on.

In addition to their amazing dresses, they also have an amazing selection of shorts and skirts, to add some variety to your summer wardrobe.

My obsession over Finders Keepers made me want to create a virtual outfit for all of you (using a Finders Keepers dress, of course) Take a look down below!

If by now you've jumped on board the Finders Keepers obsession train with me, you can shop the brand online:

I've gone MIA... again?

I am going to be quite frank here, I am a little disappointed with myself over the fact that I let my blogging take the back seat for a few months.

I am going to keep this short. Of course being a full time student, and interning and working on the side has kept me incredibly busy. But now that schools done, and summer is here, there are no more excuses. Back on my grind. Can't wait to share with you my fashion finds, the latest scoop on the "new-new" and of course, all things I find beautiful.

Happy Blogging. Missed you all!!

Also! Social Media update! I have new accounts:

Rock n Roll According to Lenny Kravitz

Lenny Kravitz takes the spotlight for The Block's newest edition!
The bi-annual magazine featured a personal interview with Kravitz discussing his view on rock n roll these days.
Case in point: where are all the true rock stars these days?
Well, we don't know for sure. We can assume that with the new genre and era of music quickly taking over, rock n roll stars such as Dave Grohl and Pete Doherty have almost disappeared off the music radar. But, what we can say, is that badass Lenny Kravitz is still around (sort of).

What does Kravitz think about the fading of rock n roll stars? In Kravitz interview with The Block, he says,
"I'm not happy nobody makes albums anymore. The album is a piece of art. A painting, a sculpture, a book, a photograph. I grew up in a time when albums were monumental. Stevie, Marvin Gaye, Led Zeppelin, Miles Davies, Stones, whatever it might be. They were serious things and they were beautiful. It was a statement, the entire album. Now we have the ability to pick apart the songs. As far as keeping the preservation of the album, it's the worst thing. It's like going to buy art and saying, I'll just take the left corner of the painting in the bottom. I want the foot. Well, the intention was the entire painting. It's the same thing with the album".
He then gives us a look into his newest album Black and White. Kravitz states,
"Actually, I thought of the name while I was watching this documentary about Obama. These people were saying they were going to stop him from being president, saying we got plans, he's going to be killed, we want to take America back to the way it was 100 years ago. Of course we know racism exists, but when we hear people that are so hateful and ignorant, it's like really? I want to transcend black and white."
In more ways than one, he's right. No only is the title so appropriate for society's racial views, but same goes for his life growing up. Kravitz was born into a bi-racial family, his mom black and his dad white, Jewish. Kravits told The Block,
"I grew up in the middle of everything. I've never fit into a box. I love that. At one of my shows, you'll see a seven-year-old and a sixty-five year-old woman and everything in between, every color".
VALID. I mean really, go to a Lenny Kravitz concert and you'll see as much diversity as the streets of New York City . But it's his music that has brought people of all different backgrouds together.
And that, is the art of music!!!
So aside from the fact that Kravitz has nine phenomenal albums to date, along with four film credits- we can asssume that he also likes to have some downtime in between right? So say Kravits,
"Well, I live in a trailer, like a little Airstream on the beach. First thing I do is get out and look at the sky, thank God for the day, get into the water, sit, think, make music, think about where I'm gonna get lunch from. Go to the studio, make some music. In and out. Whatever I feel like doing. Hanging".
So, straight hanging right? I guess that's rock star life (least according to Kravitz).
"It's the real rock-star life."-LK
Rest-assured that Kravitz is still making music.
Make sure you listen to his album Black and White.
And, if you are a reader of The Hunger Games series, be on the lookout for the movie on March 23, feautring Lenny Kravits.
'Cause according to Kravitz himself, "It's going to be a huge movie."
I must say so myself Kravitz is rocking Phillip Lim, John Varatos and Tim Hamilton quite nicely. (Of course, I would notice that- how could I leave the fashion out of this?)

DIY: bedazzle your kicks

  miu miu sneakers

As much as I want to get my hands on a pair of these, I have to hold off. (must remember: priorities)Luckily, I came across this brilliant idea by "HONESTLY...WTF!"The masterminds behind this idea, Erica and Lauren, simply gathered a pair of van's canvas sneakers, gold glitter, rhinestones and mod podge to create their own creation of a similar pair of miu miu sneakers.- AMAZE!
I will most definitely try and use my creativity to make these!

TRY IT YOURSELF!
Remember not to limit yourself! You can switch up the color of the glitter, rhinestones, and laces!
Here are instructions from the creators themselves:

Things You Need:
-A Pair of White Canvas Vans
 -8 Ounces of Mod Podge
-1.5 Ounces of Gold Glitter (or whichever color you prefer)
-1 Small and 1 Medium Flat Brush
-Assorted Rhinestones in settings
-Heavy duty adhesive
-Small Plastic Tray
-Tape

Next: Step by Step Instructions:
1. Start by taping the edges of the shoes, covering the rubber soles. Cover both toes with tape as this is where the rhinestones will be glued on later.

2. Add one part course glitter to two parts Mod Podge into a small plastic cup or tray.
3. Stir the mixture thoroughly with a paintbrush. The consistency should be rather thick but not pasty. Apply a layer of the glitter mixture to the shoe. Allow to dry for 10-15 minutes and add a second and third layer until hardly any white space is showing. Use an exacto knife or the edge of your fingernail to scrape off any glitter that might have dried onto the grommets or soles.
4. Remove the tape. Using adhesive, glue the rhinestones on the toe in any pattern.
5. Sport your new Miu Miu inspired glittery sneakers with or without laces and VIOLA, you have yourself a pair of look-a-like miu miu sneakers (the fabulous inexpensive ones of course)

J. Crew: Fall 2012

Perhaps one of the most wearable collections during this years NYFW !
This is J. Crew’s second Fall/Winter Collection presented, and it has not let us down. I'm absolutely loving the tweed jackets, chunky cable knit sweaters, satin skirts, jacquard cropped trousers, bright colored blazers and bold knee length skirts and the shoes- Manolo Blahnik himself designed them for J. Crew. (Woops, I think I just listed everything from the collection!)
